School Meal Price Increase

From 8th September 2020 our school meal price will be increasing by 25 pence per day. The increase means that meals will be £3.25 per day / £16.25 per week. We have not made this decision lightly and have done so as the cost to provide the meals has increased to school and we are being charged more by the catering company than we are charging parents and carers.  Sadly, we are unable to continue to subsidise the price through whole school budgets.

From September all outstanding dinner money must be paid in full and meals must be paid for weekly in advance.  We will not be able to provide hot meals to children if there is a balance of more than one week owed by parents and carers.

Healthy hot school meals, cooked on the premises are available each day using locally sourced fresh ingredients wherever possible. Menus are nutritionally balanced with all main courses served with a selection of freshly baked breads, potatoes, seasonal vegetables or salad and followed by a homemade dessert of the day, fresh fruit or yogurt.   Parents and carers are still able to send their child to school with a packed lunch if this is what you would prefer.

Please remember to keep your ParentPay account topped up as meals are payable in advance.

Handwashing advice

It is essential that everyone washes their hands more often, using soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Hand washing with soap employs mechanical action that loosens bacteria and viruses from the skin, rinsing them into the drain. Drying hands afterwards makes the skin less hospitable to the virus. Hand sanitiser can be effective if soap is not available or the situation makes using soap less feasible (i.e. when outside) but using hand sanitiser provides none of the virus-destroying friction that rubbing your hands together and rinsing with water provides.

The latest guidance and video on hand washing can be found at:

https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/healthy-body/best-way-to-wash-your-hands/

The e-Bug project is led by Public Health England and has a dedicated webpage for learning resources on hand washing and respiratory hygiene. E-Bug has published posters on hand hygiene, and covering coughs and sneezes, to display in bathrooms, classrooms and shared spaces.

The hand and respiratory hygiene posters and other educational resources can be found here:

Notices

Please see the government advice for coronavirus and self-isolation.

This guidance is intended for:

    • people with symptoms that may be caused by coronavirus, and do not require hospital treatment, who must remain at home until they are well
    • those living in households with someone who shows symptoms that may be caused by coronavirus

The main messages are:

    • if you live with others and you or one of them have symptoms of coronavirus, then all household members must stay at home and not leave the house for 14 days. The 14-day period starts from the day when the first person in the house became ill
    • it is likely that people living within a household will infect each other or be infected already. Staying at home for 14 days will greatly reduce the overall amount of infection the household could pass on to others in the community

We would like to reiterate the message that children should stay at home with a new, continuous cough or a high temperature to avoid spreading infection to others.

At the present time, we are receiving daily messages from the Department for Education as to the policies and procedures for dealing with the Coronavirus and we continue to follow their advice. The main message at the moment is the importance of hygiene and handwashing and the catch it, bin it, kill it strategy for those with coughs and sneezes. We understand that you will have heard these messages many times but would like to pass on the instructions for handwashing from the DFE.

How to wash your hands properly:

Wash your hands more often for 20 seconds with soap and hot water.

Public Health England recommends that in addition to handwashing before eating, and after coughing and sneezing, everyone should also wash hands after using toilets and travelling on public transport.
