York St John University organised a French Day at Forest Special School in Knaresborough, funded by the Routes into Languages scheme. Staff who organised the day were accompanied by JH Languages students studying BSL and Education students with an MFL specialism.

Languages are not taught at the school, but they often have themed days, and it was suggested that this would be a good way to bring Languages into the curriculum.

All of the secondary-age pupils and some of the primary pupils were involved. Many already knew a few words of French, and the staff surprised themselves by the amount of French they were able to draw on from their own experience.
